I would like to introduce you to a very special young lady. Her name is Jacqueline Devoy. She and her family live in Cape Coral, Florida. Jackie is a joyful, beautiful five-year-old girl, who is like other little girls in many ways. She loves to play with her Barbie Dolls and Powder Puff Girls. She enjoys doing arts and crafts and pretending she is a princess. But there is something that makes Jacqueline very different from other five-year-old girls. When she was almost four years old, Jackie was diagnosed with a highly malignant brain tumor known as Medullomyoblastoma.
She has been fighting for her life ever since. This brave little girl has endured a craniotomy, radiation to her brain and spine, and a year of chemotherapy. |

She has been at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina where she underwent a bone marrow transplant. She spent 100 days in treatment and will suffer from the effects of her disease and treatments for the rest of her life. Here is an update from Jackie's mother: |

"Jacquelines's transplant went very well. She was released from the Duke University Hospital and sent home to Cape Coral, Florida. She is continuing to get blood transfusions here at home. She is under home schooling for at least 6 months due to her treatments. So far Jackie appears to be having problems with short-term memory but is doing very good. Along with the schooling she has a speech therapist coming to her home twice a week. Jackie has been fitted with hearing aids in both ears. She has lost most of her hearing in her left ear. Other than that, she is gaining weight and growing. She is feeling well and getting stronger every day. She has to have a MRI every 3 months, with rechecks at Duke University by her physicians. It is to soon to know what the long term damage from treatment will be, but Jackie is doing exceptionally well so far. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers." Juli Devoy |

In an effort to help Jacqueline’s family with the overwhelming expenses of her care, David Till Jr. also of Cape Coral Florida, with the help of fellow Central Florida Region drivers David Boles of Melbourne Florida, (Irish) Mike Flynn of Orlando, Florida and AJ Hulse of Sebastian Florida, entered a car in the 24 hours of Moroso Race on Dec 28-30, 2001. By entering the race, these four drivers gained the support of their fellow CFR and all other SCCA members to raise as much money as possible to help Jackie and her family with past, present, and future medical expenses. By getting donations and/or pledges per lap, they are hoping to be able to brighten the future for Jackie.
New update on Jackie "Jackie had an MRI on January 30th and there was no sign of the disease, THANK GOD. She has lost most of her hearing in the left ear and most high frequency hearing in the right ear. So we had to order new hearing aids, and the money from the race will help greatly to pay for them. Thank You All !! She seems to be getting most of her strength back. She goes to school twice a week, and has a homebound kindergarten teacher come twice a week. She has teachers for the hearing impaired and for speech that also come 2 times a week. We are trying to get the speech teacher here more often. Jackie's speech is very bad due to the hearing loss at such a young age. The school she attends is a small private school so she doesn't get exposed to too many kids so it's not overwhelming for her. Jackie seems to be doing very well new and we are so pleased. Her next MRI is in April, pleas say a prayer for her. THANK YOU" Juli Devoy |
